Favorite Commercial

I like this commercial. It’s really cool because they use special effects to make it look like things are coming out of the PS3. I think this is a demo because it shows some of the products and features of the system.

Project Reflection

For our 3rd quarter project, the people in my class got into groups of three to create a website on a historical figure for the National History Day Competition. The people in my group were Taylor C. and Taylor T. We chose to do a website on Antonio Borja Won Pat. Taylor C. and Taylor T. were in charge of doing research, and my job was to learn how to use iWeb.

It was a fun experience researching A.B. Won Pat. My class and I got to go on three field trips. I went on the fieldtrip to the MARC Library. It was hard finding information about Won Pat’s personal life. Most of the files at the MARC were about his political career.

If I could do this website over, I would start on it early. I think it was because we waited until the last minute (when we went to the MARC the day the project was due) that we couldn’t find good information. The second thing I would do is communicate with my group more. We didn’t really talk with each other outside of class about the project, so none of us really knew what we were supposed to do. I would have had us take turns going to the MARC. The third thing I would do is include more pictures and make the website pretty. I think that our website was too plain.

If I could create another website, I would choose to talk about Adolf Hitler. Most people only know the basic things (like he was the fuhrer of Germany, he killed more than 17 million civilians, etc.), but there’s other interesting information about him (like there were numerous assassination attempts on his life, he commited suicide by simultaneously shooting himself and biting into a cyanide capsule, and that all that remains of Hitler is his skull).

Jack the Ripper

Jack the Ripper. Photo by Jack1956. Retrieved on March 25, 2009.

The historical figure I chose for this assignment was Jack the Ripper. He is London’s most famous serial killer. Based on witnesses’ accounts, he had a normal appearance, which made it hard for police to find him. Up to this day, no one knows his real identity because the police were never able to capture him.

Jack the Ripper’s victims were mostly alcoholic prostitutes. He mutilated and murdered at least five prostitutes in the 19th century. He killed all his victims, except one, by strangulation. After that, he laid the victim on the ground and cut the victim’s throat all the way around to drain the blood. Then, he surgically removed the victim’s organ’s to keep them as trophies. He is one of history’s legendary serial killers.

Theme Parks in Florida

For our group assignment, Taylor T. , Jennifer, and I had to do research on the theme parks that our teacher assigned us. The theme parks that we did research on were: SeaWorld, Universal Studios, and Disney’s Magic Kingdom. My group had to do a chart about the adult ticket price, the child ticket price, and the ticket price for a family of four, find the median, and graph the results. We found out that Magic Kingdom was the most expensive and Unversal Studios was the cheapest. SeaWorld was in the middle.

I think that a family of four should go to Universal Studios. It is the cheapest. If you’re going with your worst enemy, then you should go to SeaWorld because you can push him/her into the water where they will get eaten by the fish. Just kidding :) .

Anti-Bullying Workshop

UMS had an anti-bullying workshop today. There were different presenters. The first presenter was from the Attorney General’s office. She had a slideshow presentation on cyber-bullying. They had a story about a girl, Megan Meiwer, who commited suicide after someone started calling her names through messages on Myspace. The next presenters were from GPD. The police officers taught us more about bullying and told about their own experiences. Then, Peer Mediation did a skit. They told us how you should tell someone if you’re being bullied. The last presenter was from Youth Crime Watch. Mr. McDow tyold some facts about bullying like how people are bullied by other people in small groups.

Overall, the anti-bullying workshop was kind of boring. All they did was say the same thing over and over again like, “Bullying hurts everyone”. I think the workshop could have been better if it had been shorter. In my opinion, three hours in a workshop is way too long. I lost my interest by the 4th presenter. It was also really hot inside the gym. It’s kind of messed up that the anti-bullying workshop was in the gym for the 8th graders and in other classrooms for the 6th and 7th graders.

Outline

I. Spending time with your family is important.

A. Went to several family gatherings.

1.Got to know my aunties and uncles a little better.

2. Met my cousins-in-law.

B. Spent time with my immediate family.

1. Went shopping with my sister.

2. Wrapped gifts with my mom.

II. Learned how to wrap gifts.

A. Learned how to wrap presents from my mom.

1. She showed me how to cut and fold the wrapping paper a certain way so that it would look nice.

2. Showed me how to make the ribbon look nice.

B. Mom threatened me.

1. She wanted me to wrap presents for her.

2. She threatened to not let me go to the mall.

One lesson I learned during break is that spending time with your family is important. I went to several family gatherings(two for Christmas and one for the New Year). At the gatherings, I got to know my uncles and aunties a little bit better, and, I met my new cousins-in-law. I spent a lot of time with my mom and my sister. I went Christmas shopping at the mall with my sister and I wrapped presents with my mom.

The second thing I learned during break is how to wrap gifts. I was forced to learn by by mom because she wanted me to wrap her friends’ gifts. If I didn’t, she wouldn’t let me go to the mall. My mom showed me how to fold the wrapping paper a certain way so that it would look nice. She also showed me how to properly wrap the ribbon around the gift.

Ways to Take Better Pictures Than Ritacia, Pialani, and Taylor T.

There are many ways to take good pictures. When you take a picture up-close, you should use the macro setting. When you use the digital zoom feature to zoom into your subject, you should press the shutter button halfway to make your camera auto focus. Use fill flash to lighten shadow areas. Sometimes, when you take a picture, your subject’s eyes are red. This is called red eye. Some cameras have an in-camera red eye ruduction feature.
When taking a picture, you should make sure that you have enough memory in your SD card. Some cameras take other types of memory, like a memory stick, CompactFlash and SmartMedia. Cameras that have a high megapixel rating take pictures that take up more space on your memory stick.

Survey Responses

My survey consisted of three questions: 1) If I ever asked, would you tell me where you live? 2) Do you have bars on your windows? and 3) Do you WANT bars on your windows? I put these questions on my survey so I can cross the names off my Hit-List faster becaause they were random questions that would make people go, “What the heck?”

I got some interesting answers for Question #3 from Tamalin, Brilyn and Giordan. Tamalin put,” Now that you know that I don’t have bars, I am prepared to put some up IMMEDIATELY!!!” Brilyn put,”I DO NOW!! *so very scared*” Giordan asked,” Are you on meds?”

I liked Reuben’s survey, especially the question,”What is purple?” I put, “A hobo weapon” Now I know that I should DEFINITELY give hobos money before they attack me with a purple. I wonder what kind of a weapon a purple is? Anyway, I liked Brilyn’s survey too, especially the one concerning containers. It was random. I also liked Tamalin’s survey. She asked about SPONGEBOB!!!

Activity Day

I went to Mr. Gomez’s class for activity day. There weren’t that many students in his classroom. People were just doing their own thing. A bunch of 8th grade students were playing Truth-or-Dare. I really didn’t do anything. I just watched the other students do stupid dares.

I interviewed three people, asking them how they felt about the activity. Ferdinand, a 7th grader, said,” The activity was great. Less time in classes and more free time.” Tamalin said,” It was okay.” Brittany said,” The activity was boring.”
